performance platforms for the digital era: empower your advertisers and engage your users

in a nutshell

From offices in the UK and Germany, Mirago offer two propositions to the digital sector. The provision and hosting of highly configurable technology platforms for publishers and the sale of performance based advertising across Mirago's syndication network.

Both Technology Partners and Media Clients benefit from the highly featured products and services developed by a company with 10 years experience of delivering innovative solutions to the digital media sector.

short history

Mirago started life as a development project in 1997, within a company called Compsoft who wrote high performance database engines. Databases are of course, all about storing, indexing and retrieving data. The Mirago team took those core techniques and applied them to the mass volumes of data on the Internet.

This development project culminated in the launch of a robot generated UK search index, closely followed by indexes for France, Germany and several other European countries.

Mirago plc was established as an independent company in 2000 and quickly developed its own CPM and PPC platform to monetise its web indexes. Rather than trying to establish itself as an end user destination, Mirago decided to offer its indexes topped by its own ppc advertisers to third party search sites. The first two of these were Ask Jeeves and Infospace.

During the next few years Mirago extended its partner network significantly and developed its platform to encompass other areas such as contextual advertising. The software team which developed the Mirago platform worked in close association with its sales and account management teams, so the platform benefited immensely from the invaluable advertiser, partner and account management feedback.

In 2004 Mirago raised eyebrows in the International Search Engine world by receiving an Honourable Mention at the SearchEngineWatch awards event in New York for two features it introduced during the previous year, notably traffic source selection and dayparting. Danny Sullivan, creator of SearchEngineWatch referred to these global innovations in his speech, saying "Mirago has lead the industry in both these fronts, and we´d like other paid listing providers to catch up!"

In both 2005 and 2006 Mirago was named in the top 20 of The Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100, which featured Britain's fastest growing private technology companies. Mirago was one of only three companies to appear in the top 20 for both those years.

In 2006 Mirago made a strategic shift... rather than going head to head with the huge emerging search brands in the syndicated partner space, Mirago decided to offer its performance based media platform on a white label basis to major publishers. Early adopters included Yell.com and Associated Newspapers.

In 2008 the Mirago platform was extended into the converging world of telecommunications to incorporate a new pay per call offering based on their own technology.

The provision of white label platforms extended into Europe in 2009, with the signing of an important partnership agreement with 4w Marketplace, who syndicate advertising across many of the top Italian publishers.

During 2008 an initiative was commenced to develop a new unified platform. Up until then, each platform had been built using its own dedicated hardware, bespoke software, monitoring and disaster recovery facilities. In 2010 the new 'Mirago Unified Platform' was launched, which allows Publishers and Media Networks to quickly and easily deploy their own 'virtual platform', which is a secure instance of the main underlying platform.

2010 also saw the launch of a new Mirago Price Comparison platform which aggregates affiliate feeds. Utilities Warehouse became an early adopter.
